The Marscoin Foundation Established in Florida
As the Marscoin network continues to grow in hash rate and community size following our January 2014 launch, the need for organized, long-term stewardship has become clear. Today, we are proud to announce the official establishment of the Marscoin Foundation.
Registered as a non-profit organization in the state of Florida, the Foundation was created to protect, guide, and promote the Marscoin protocol without asserting centralized control over the open-source blockchain itself.
The Role of the Foundation
Unlike corporate entities that seek profit or control, the Marscoin Foundation operates with a mandate focused purely on the success of humanity’s expansion to Mars. Its primary functions include:
- Stewardship of Resources: Managing community donations, paying for essential infrastructure (like domain names, seed nodes, and web hosting), and funding development bounties.
- Legal Protection: Providing a formal legal entity to interact with other organizations (such as our ongoing relationship with The Mars Society) and eventually securing intellectual property protections for the Marscoin brand to prevent malicious forks or scams.
- Education and Advocacy: Producing educational materials, whitepapers, and representing the project at space and cryptocurrency conventions.
- Open Source Coordination: Assisting in coordinating updates to the core client software while ensuring the protocol remains firmly decentralized and in the hands of the miners and nodes.
A Project for the Long Haul
Establishing a formal foundation sets Marscoin apart from the countless “flash in the pan” altcoins of 2014. The timeline for settling Mars is measured in decades, not months. By establishing a dedicated non-profit entity now, we are building the organizational infrastructure necessary to sustain the project through the inevitable market cycles of the cryptocurrency space.
